things we learned as girls
14 - 28 August, 2010
Housed in a disused Victorian school building in the market town of Cupar, things we learned as girls explored ways in which childhood influence can affect an artist's work in adulthood. Curated by Cupar based visual artist, Gayle Nelson, the exhibition brought together five contemporary artists who use a wide range of media. Each is established in their own art practice and so able to consider recurring elements or themes permeating their work, which might be traced back to their early years. The result was an insightful exhibition of new installations and works.

ARTWORKS OUTDOORS
July 25 - Sept. 2, 2010
As part of the exhibition ARTWORKS OUTDOORS, Gayle Nelson and Fiona McDonald showed two works at St Andrews Botanic Garden this summer. The first, Three Trees, was originally created for the StAnza Poetry Festival, and is an interpretation of elements seen and heard in a quiet garden. The delicate perspex lettering of the second artwork, How Does Your Garden Grow, wound subtly around a wildflower border. This artwork was developed specifically for the Botanics. The words are from a well-known verse, and in this context used to reference the expression of identity through gardening. Six invited artists took part in this exhibition, which is funded by Celebrate Fife.
